The individual bureau quotes
The bureau median is built from individual quotes. The table above lists each bureau that was fresh enough to count, with its buying and selling price, when it was last updated, and how far its mid sits from the interbank rate. A bureau is dropped when its quote is more than a week old. Buying and selling prices are from the bureau's point of view, so a customer buying dollars pays the selling price.

What the columns show
Each row is one bureau. The buying price is what the bureau pays for dollars; the selling price is what it charges. The last-updated time is when the bureau last changed its board. The distance from interbank is the difference between the bureau's mid and the interbank mid, in cedis and per cent.
A bureau with a large distance is charging more than the interbank rate. A bureau with a small distance is closer to the reference.
Why a bureau is dropped
A quote older than a week is dropped from the median and from this table. The reason is simple: a price that old may not reflect the current market.
This site records how many quotes were dropped. A bureau that updates daily will always appear; a bureau that updates rarely will fall out until it refreshes.
Buying and selling are from the bureau's side
The buying price is what the bureau will pay you for your dollars. The selling price is what you pay the bureau to buy dollars. The selling price is always higher than the buying price; the difference is the bureau's margin.
When you see a bureau's board, the lower number is what they give you, and the higher number is what they charge you. This table lists both.
Why bureaux differ
Bureaux set their own prices. A bureau in a busy area may charge more; a bureau with high rent may need a wider margin. Some update several times a day; others leave the same board for a week.
The median smooths these differences. The bureau-by-bureau table shows the range, and a reader can see which bureaux are cheapest and which are most expensive.
The distance from interbank matters
The distance from interbank is the premium a bureau charges over the reference rate. A large distance means the bureau is expensive; a small distance means it is cheap.
This distance is not fixed. It changes when the interbank rate moves and the bureau does not follow, or when the bureau changes its board. The table shows the distance for each bureau at the last reading.
A quote is not an offer
The prices in the table are quotes reported to an aggregator. They are not a promise to exchange at that price. A bureau may change its board between the quote and your visit.
Before going to a bureau, call or check its latest board. The table tells you which bureaux were fresh and which were not, and how far each sat from the interbank rate.

Questions about the dollar rate
Why is a bureau missing?
A bureau is missing if its quote was older than a week and was dropped. It will reappear when it updates its board.
What is the last-updated time?
It is when the bureau last changed its quote. Some bureaux update daily; others leave the same prices for days.
Which price do I pay to buy dollars?
You pay the selling price. The buying price is what the bureau pays you if you sell dollars.
Why do bureaux differ?
Each bureau sets its own margin based on location, rent and demand. The median smooths these differences.
Is the distance from interbank the same as the gap?
The distance is for one bureau; the gap is for the median of all fresh bureaux. The table shows both.
An account that settles in dollars, not cedis
A contract for difference on the dollar-cedi rate is settled in the account's currency and carries no claim on cash exchanged at a counter. Opening an account requires identification and takes a day or two; a practice account costs nothing.
