The interbank rate, the bureau rate and the gap today
The Bank of Ghana publishes a reference rate each working day, but the dollar you buy at a bureau costs more. This page shows the interbank mid, the bureau median and the crypto P2P price, with the gap in cedis and per cent. The table above has the numbers; the text explains what each column is and how many bureau quotes were fresh enough to count.

What the columns show
The table shows three rates. The first is the Bank of Ghana interbank reference rate, with its buying, selling and mid prices. The second is the median of fresh Accra forex-bureau quotes, and the third is the crypto P2P price from Binance and KuCoin.
Beside the bureau median, the table shows the gap: the difference between the bureau median and the interbank mid, in cedis and as a per cent of the interbank mid. That gap is what a person pays when the interbank dollar is not the one on offer.
The bureau median is not a survey
The bureau figure is a median of quotes reported to CediRates, a public rates aggregator. It is a handful of Accra quotes, not a survey of every bureau. Some quotes are updated daily; others are days old.
This site drops any quote older than a week and records how many were dropped. The table states how many bureau quotes were fresh enough to count. A median built from few quotes can move sharply when one bureau changes its board.
The crypto P2P price is separate
The crypto P2P price is the mean of the fresh Binance and KuCoin peer-to-peer dollar prices. It is shown beside the bureau figure and never blended into it.
A P2P price is set by individual traders on an exchange, and it can be higher or lower than a bureau. It is a transfer price, not a cash price, and it moves with demand on the platform.
What a hundred dollars costs
The table shows what a hundred dollars costs at each rate. The interbank mid is the reference; the bureau selling price is what a bureau will charge for cash; the crypto P2P price is what a peer-to-peer desk asks.
The gap between the bureau median and the interbank mid is the premium for cash. That premium covers the dealer's margin and the cost of holding dollars, and it is the figure to watch when the cedi moves.
Why the gap moves
The gap widens when demand for cash dollars rises faster than the interbank rate, or when bureaux are slow to update their boards. It narrows when the interbank rate catches up or when bureaux cut their margins.
The gap is not set by anyone. It emerges from the difference between a wholesale rate and a retail rate, and it can change within a day even when the interbank rate is fixed until the next working day.
Which rate matters
For a person buying dollars with cedis, the bureau selling price is the rate that matters. For a person selling dollars, the bureau buying price is the one that matters. The interbank rate is a reference, not an offer.
A bank will quote its own counter rate, which is close to the interbank rate but not equal to it. The crypto P2P price matters for a transfer, not for cash. The gap tells you how much extra the cash market costs.

Questions about the dollar rate
What is the Bank of Ghana interbank rate?
It is the reference rate published each working day, computed from spot dollar-cedi transactions that banks report to the Bank of Ghana. It includes buying, selling and mid prices, with the weighted median closing rate.
Why is the bureau rate higher than the interbank rate?
A bureau rate is a retail price. It includes the dealer's margin and the cost of holding cash. The interbank rate is a wholesale reference, so the bureau rate sits above it.
How many bureau quotes are used?
The table states how many quotes were fresh enough to count. This site drops any quote older than a week and records the number dropped. The median is built from the remaining fresh quotes.
Is the crypto P2P price included in the bureau median?
No. The crypto P2P price is shown separately. It is the mean of the fresh Binance and KuCoin P2P dollar prices, and it is never blended into the bureau figure.
What does the gap mean?
The gap is the bureau median minus the interbank mid, in cedis and as a per cent. It shows the premium for buying dollars at a bureau rather than at the interbank rate.
An account that settles in dollars, not cedis
A contract for difference on the dollar-cedi rate is settled in the account's currency and carries no claim on cash exchanged at a counter. Opening an account requires identification and takes a day or two; a practice account costs nothing.
