The record this site has kept

How the rates have moved day by day

3 min · Written 3 November 2026

The Bank of Ghana publishes on working days only, and this site records each day's reading. The table above shows the interbank rate, the bureau median and the gap for each recorded day. The record starts short because it is built from this site's own readings, and a bureau figure can be unchanged for days because bureaux update their boards irregularly.

What the columns show

The table lists each recorded day, the interbank mid, the bureau median and the gap in cedis and per cent. The interbank rate is the Bank of Ghana's published mid; the bureau median is the median of fresh Accra quotes; the gap is the difference between them.

A day with no interbank rate is a weekend or a holiday. A day with an unchanged bureau median may mean no bureau updated its board, or that the fresh quotes happened to have the same median.

The Bank of Ghana publishes on working days

The interbank rate is published each working day. On weekends and public holidays, no new rate appears, and the previous working day's rate remains the latest.

This site records only the days it has read. The day-by-day table therefore starts short and grows as readings accumulate. It is not a complete history from the Bank of Ghana's first publication.

The record is this site's own

The day-by-day table is built from the readings this site has taken. Each row is one day's reading, stored as it was published. No backfill is attempted.

This means the table is an honest record of what the site saw, not a reconstruction. If a reading was refused because it failed a check, the previous reading stays and the refusal is noted in the methodology.

Bureau figures can be unchanged for days

A bureau updates its board when it chooses. Some update daily; others leave the same prices for a week. The median can therefore be unchanged even when the interbank rate moves.

This site drops quotes older than a week, so a bureau that never updates will eventually fall out of the median. Until then, its stale quote may hold the median steady.

The gap is the variable to watch

The gap between the bureau median and the interbank mid is not fixed. It widens when bureaux are slow to follow the interbank rate down, and narrows when they catch up.

A widening gap means the cash market is charging more over the reference rate. A narrowing gap means the premium for cash is falling. The day-by-day record shows these moves.

A short record is still useful

Even a few days of readings show whether the gap is stable or jumpy. A stable gap suggests bureaux are following the interbank rate; a jumpy gap suggests they are reacting to demand.

As the record grows, patterns emerge. The table is the raw material; the text explains what each column is and why a day may be missing.

Questions about the dollar rate

Why are some days missing?

The Bank of Ghana publishes only on working days. Weekends and public holidays have no new interbank rate, so no row appears for those days.

Why is the record short?

This site records its own readings, one row per day. It started when the site began, so the table is short at first and grows over time.

Why is the bureau median unchanged for days?

Bureaux update their boards irregularly. If no fresh quote changes the median, it stays the same. This site drops quotes older than a week.

What is the gap?

The gap is the bureau median minus the interbank mid, in cedis and as a per cent. It shows the premium for buying dollars at a bureau.

Does the table show forecasts?

No. The table shows only recorded readings. This site makes no forecast of future rates.

A trading account is a different way to face the dollar

An account that settles in dollars, not cedis

A contract for difference on the dollar-cedi rate is settled in the account's currency and carries no claim on cash exchanged at a counter. Opening an account requires identification and takes a day or two; a practice account costs nothing.
